The re-release was met with disdain from Aaliyah's estate, who issued a statement denouncing the "unscrupulous endeavor to release Aaliyah's music without any transparency or full accounting to the estate". In Japan, a CD+DVD compilation album titled Special Edition: Rare Tracks & Visuals was released on March 14 instead of Ultimate Aaliyah. The album consists of three discs–two CDs and a DVD featuring the 60-minute documentary The Aaliyah Story compiled of promo clips, interviews, and special features, including MTV special, MTV News Now: The Life of Aaliyah, a Tribute to Aaliyah, Aaliyah's VH1 Behind the Music installment, and her E! True Hollywood Story episode.
Unlike Aaliyah's previous releases, Ultimate Aaliyah was released independently by Blackground Records, without the involvement of a major label. Ideally majority of the fans would love to hear the original versions without any features, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.Ultimate Aaliyah was released in France and the United Kingdom on Ap and in Australia on May 2. This is the reason why artist features and collabs will be on each track. The only catch is that since they are re-releasing Aaliyah's music, they need to treat it as if she is an up and coming new artist for marketing purposes. With the re-release of the music and the new album titled 'Unstoppable' from Blackground 2.0, we may finally get to hear some of those unreleased demo tracks in higher quality. Intially there was orginally meant to be a duets album, which never happened due to Diane Haughton not wanting it, so they had to back down from the project. Majority of those demos would of leaked during the time when artists such as Chris Brown and Drake wanted to use Aaliyah's vocals for their own tracks. We just need to appreciate the audio for what it is, in it's raw authentic form, regardless of whether it's high quality or low quality. Demo tracks are the rough drafts/vocals before finalising the audio into a higher quality, so.you will not be getting the highest quality when it comes to that, especially from the time in which it was recorded too. Keep in mind though that Don't Let Me Fool Ya was probably ripped from a Cassette and Lord Knows By 2Pac was ripped from a Reel. What I was trying to say, and I think it's a bit complicated to explain, but where did each and every single one of these tracks pop up from prior to being compiled on the Red Sessions? Has anyone ever kept track of that? Some of the songs from the Red Sessions folder like Don't Let Me Fool Ya are super compressed and poor quality (not knocking anyone!) but does anyone like know where that song originally leaked from? Maybe the true original source/leak files hold better quality.Īn example on how poor quality some tracks are:Ī 'perfect' quality song should appear as this: If I am not mistaken, some years ago, music could be downloaded from Static Major's website which was a source/leak for some of the refrences on the Red Sessions, for example, We Need A Resolution comes from Static Major's site, it's also tagged lol.
